JACKSONVILLE - Florida Lottery officials earlier this week announced that it sold $74 million worth of scratch-off lottery tickets during the past week, the fifth-straight week that the lottery has broken its weekly sales record.

The most recent record coincides with the launch of the state??s new $20 scratch-off ticket. "[It provides] immediate gratification. You scratch and know if you won," said Stephen Galaydick, the Florida Lottery's Jacksonville district manager.

Florida Lottery officials said Florida is just one of three lotteries ?" New York and Massachusetts are the other two ?" with weekly scratch-off sales that exceed $70 million. Florida typically sells about 60 types of scratch-off tickets at one time.

As a result of the most recent tally, the Lottery has projected selling $4.9 billion worth of tickets during the fiscal year that ends June 30.

"We just happen to have an over $180 million Powerball jackpot," Galaydick said. "People are seeing the jackpot, seeing the new game and trying it."
