Burger King Adds Satisfries to Kids’ Meals

Adding Satisfries to kids meals “a step in the right direction,” says Burger King CMO.

NEW YORK – Burger King is automatically including its reduced calorie and fat Satisfries in kids meals, Advertising Age reports.

Introduced in September, Satisfries contain 20% fewer calories and 25% less fat than BK’s traditional fries. Kids meals will now include the fries, along with apple slices, choice of entrée and a drink. The serving size for Satisfries added to kids’ meals will be 87 grams, or roughly 3 ounces.

Accordingly, a four-piece nugget kids meal with Satisfries, apples and non-fat milk tops out at roughly 500 calories.

According to Burger King Chief Marketing Officer Eric Hirschhorn, 10% of Burger King's sales come from kids meals. He said adding Satisfries was "a step in the right direction” and that Burger King won't be directly marketing to kids for the new fries, but the chain will have some merchandising and menu-board marketing in-store.

“[Satisfries’ continue to drive traffic and are incremental to our classic French fry purchases. They also differentiate the Burger King brand as a true innovator in the [fast food] industry,” said Burger Kind North American President Alex Macedo.

McDonald’s reduced the size of its fries in its Happy meal in 2011, offering a 1.1-ounce package of fries along with apple slices. It’s 4-piece nugget kids meal weighs in at 410 calories, 90 less than the new BK offering.
