WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – The first Dunkin’ Donuts in the San Francisco Bay area will likely start serving coffee and donuts by mid-June in Walnut Creek, Calif., the San Francisco Business Times reports. Matt Cobo is the franchise owner. “Not very often do you get an opportunity to grow a brand in a new market—an existing, proven, successful brand in a new market—so I just jumped at it,” he said.

Cobo will eventually build a dozen units in Contra Costa County. “Dunkin has this In-N-Out-like effect … it has an emotional connection with its customers,” he said. Dunkin’ Donuts also has partnered with two other groups to launch 35 locations in the Bay Area, but right now no word on when those will start opening.

Dunkin’ Donuts started to push into California in 2014 with locations in the southern part of the state. All told, around 250 new units will open in California over the next few years. Dunkin’ Donuts indicated its long-term goal for the state is to have more than a thousand locations in the coming years.

All-day breakfast by McDonald’s and other chains has hurt sales at Dunkin’ Donuts lately, but the company announced plans to counter that with a trio of national value promotions this year.
