ATLANTA - Coca-Cola has extended its eco-friendly plant bottle packaging to more of its line-up, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. The soft drink company started consumer testing of its plant bottle packaging with Dasani.

From now until May, Coke will sell Coke, Coke Zero, Diet Coke, Fanta Orange, Mello Yello and Sprite in plant bottles in Atlanta, Birmingham, Ala., and Nashville, Tenn. The test extension is part of a trial on consumer interest in the bottle in different brands, as well as to see how suppliers create the bottles. The bottles use 30% plant-based materials in the composition.

Right now, Coke needs more production capability to extend the plant bottles to all of its products, said Scott Vitters, general manager of PlantBottle Platform for Coke. This test will help the company figure out which brand generates the most excitement from consumers, which will provide information on what brand will get a plant bottle next.

Currently, Dasani is all bottled in plant packaging in the United States?"3 billion bottles so far. Around 10 billion plant bottles have been produced over the last two years internationally, with the 20 markets outside the country testing other brands in plant bottles, too.

Vitters said the company would like to see plant bottles for all Coke products by the end of this decade.
