Convenience Stores in the Movies

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – The latest NACS podcast, “Convenience Stores in the Movies,” discusses why convenience stores are featured in so many movies.

In this episode we welcome author Mike Klein, who wrote a NACS Magazine cover story, “From Real Life to Reel Life,” featuring an interview with actor/comedian Chris Rock and writer/director Steve Pink.

“Clerks” is arguably the most famous example of a movie that takes place in a convenience store, and the podcast talks about other examples from 2016 Oscar host Chris Rock’s “Head of State” to “Grosse Point Blank” to, of course, “The Simpsons Movie” and “Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure,” which featured the classic quote, “Strange things are afoot at the Circle K.”

A new “Convenience Matters” podcast will be released every Monday, focusing on topics related to convenience stores.

“We are hearing great feedback from our podcast series,” said podcast co-host Jeff Lenard, NACS vice president of strategic industry initiatives. “Only a few days into its debut, we have hundreds of downloads and great comments from listeners. We encourage additional comments and topic ideas from listeners.”

NACS Daily announced the podcast series in late January.
