OKLAHOMA CITY - Despite support by Oklahoma Governor Marry Fallin in her recent state-of-state address, an Oklahoma Senate panel yesterday defeated a measure that would have allowed municipalities to pass stricter tobacco ordinances than those at the state level, Tulsa World reports.

Opponents of Senate Bill 36 said they were reluctant to infringe on the rights of businesses by telling them what they could and could not do.

Supporters of the bill cited the health impact that tobacco has played and the need to reduce or deter smoking.
