Still Time to Urge Congress to Pass Menu Labeling Bill

The House will vote on the Common Sense Nutrition Disclosure Act this week.

February 10, 2016

WASHINGTON – NACS needs your help to recommend your members of Congress vote yes on H.R. 2017—the Common Sense Nutrition Disclosure Act. Introduced by Reps. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) and Loretta Sanchez (D-CA), the bill is supported by NACS and is one of our top priority legislative issues.

The legislation would change the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) menu-labeling rule, set to go into effect sometime next year, that governs how convenience stores, restaurants, grocery stores and other retail stores that sell ready-to-eat food must disclose the caloric content of those offerings. As written, the FDA’s rule is overly burdensome on the convenience industry. H.R. 2017 would solve that problem and produce a rule that makes sense for our industry and others.

The proposal should be on the floor for debate tomorrow, with the final vote possibly not happening until Friday morning. Visit the NACS Grassroots page to identify your representative and to find a pre-written, editable letter that you can immediately email to their office. The more members of Congress who hear from their constituents on this issue, the more likely they are to support our position.
