On February 2, the Tesla Cross Country Rally team made history by completing a trip across the United States, while achieving Guinness Book of World Records status for the fastest electric vehicle trip traveling from Los Angeles to New York City.

Here’s a few facts from the road, according to Tesla:

  • Total trip time: 76.5 hours
  • Total drive time: almost 60 hours
  • Total charging time: 15 hours, 57 seconds
  • Total miles driven: 3,427
  • Longest distance between Supercharger locations: 247 miles from Flagstaff, Ariz., to Blanding, Utah
  • Longest drive time between Superchargers: 4 hours, 56 minutes, 29 seconds to travel 162.5 miles from Silverthorne, CO to Cheyenne, WY (Drivers encountered a blizzard, the closure and re-opening of I-70, closure of I-25, and re-routing to CO-14 and US85.)

A Tesla Motors team departed Los Angeles for New York City in two Model S sedans at midnight on January 30 with a goal to complete the journey in about three days and set a new Guinness Book of World Records achievement for lowest charge time for an electric vehicle traveling across the United States.

The Supercharger network now spans more than 3,400 miles, with more than 70 sites around the country for Model S owners to charge at for free. A Supercharger takes as little as 20 minutes to replenish half a charge.
