ISIS Looking for a Free Ride

ISIS seeks to drive customer usage of its mobile wallet by providing free transit rides in Salt Lake City.

SALT LAKE CITY - In an effort to drive customer adoption of its mobile wallet, ISIS is paying for the transit fares of consumers who use its mobile wallet in Salt Lake City, NFC Times reports.

ISIS launched the promotion last fall and recently extended the free rides to all of SLC€™s trams, commuter trains and buses through March 30.

According to the Utah Transit Authority, the number of ISIS-sponsored passengers tops 600 each day, a figure representing 1% of total citywide transactions on trams, trains and buses.

"The usage, because it€™s free, is higher than it would be normally," said Jerry Benson, chief operating officer for the Utah Transit Authority (UTA).

ISIS pays the UTA about $1,500 each day to cover free ridership, Benson said, a benefit that ISIS is promoting throughout Salt Lake City.

"From our perspective, it€™s been very, very productive," said Jim Stapleton, chief sales officer for ISIS. "We are big fans of transit, because as we move out nationally and move from two cities and 200 carrier stores to 20,000 carrier stores across the country, we are absolutely looking for partnerships similar to the UTA."

Stapleton said "active wallet users" have been using the mobile wallet more than five times per week in Salt Lake City and Austin, Texas, the two sites currently featuring pilot programs for ISIS.
