BURLINGTON - It was a dream come true for convenience store manager Susie McNamara, who was the only Vermonter at the New York Yankees?? fantasy baseball camp in Tampa, Fla.

The Burlington Free Press reports that McNamara was among a group of 78 women who took part in throwing curve balls and hitting clean up with 15 of the Yankees players.

"I felt like a real baseball player 100 percent," McNamara told the newspaper, adding, "On the chair in the locker room was a letter from the owner of the Yankees, welcoming us to the team."

McNamara learned about the camp through an e-mail and shared her excitement with her customers. "Everyone there at the store knew I was going," she commented. "I even had three Red Sox fans help me prepare."

At camp McNamara played at third base. She came away from the event with a uniform, autographs, photographs and cards.

"It was a blast...All of us had such a good time, and all of the players were fantastic. I was wearing my uniform on the field and playing ball with these guys. One of the other ladies in the group said the thing that hurt the most was her face from smiling so much during the camp," she told the newspaper.
