BISMARCK - A North Dakota lawmaker has sponsored a bill that seeks to increase the state excise tax on a pack of cigarette from 44 cents to $1, the Associated Press reports.
State Rep. Eliot Glassheim, a former smoker, said the move is intended to help curb smoking in the state. North Dakota has the sixth-lowest state cigarette tax in the country.
