ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. - Gasoline stations in Orange County, Fla., might soon have to post their gasoline prices under an ordinance the county is considering, WFTV reports. Officials pointed to close to 1,000 consumer complaints with the Better Business Bureau about gasoline stations located close to theme parks that do not advertise fuel prices as their impetus for the rule.

The ordinance would fine non-complying stations up to $5,000 daily. The regulation would be similar to one Orlando passed last year. One station has appealed a decision by a judge to uphold the ordinance, but the station erected a sign while the courts decide on the case.

Orange County Commissioner Scott Boyd said tourists had complained of being gouged at stations not posting prices. "My understanding with the Better Business Bureau is they€™ve got at least a few hundred to close to 1,000 or so complaints €¦ from all over the world, not just here locally," he said.

The complaints stem from pump prices being higher than those at stations located further away from the theme parks. For example, one station that didn€™t post prices was charging $4.55 per gallon €" higher than the national average price of fuel in the country, the television station found.

If the county commission approves the measure, gasoline stations located within Orange County have 90 days to post signs along the road that advertise their fuel prices.
