McDonald’s Unveils Two New Big Macs

But the burgers still have the special sauce on all-beef patties.

OAK BROOK, Ill. – After a half century, the Big Mac has seen better days, especially in today’s climate of fresher beef and more toppings. With only a mere 20% of millennials having tasted a Big Mac, McDonald’s knew the time had come for a makeover of its signature burger, Bloomberg reports.

This week, McDonald’s revealed two new Big Macs: the limited edition Mac Jr. and the Grand Mac. All three versions will sport the special sauce and traditional previously-frozen hamburger patties. The Mac Jr. has only one patty and 460 calories, while the Grand Mac packs 860 calories in roughly one and a half times the size as the original (which clocks in at 540 calories).

“This is a smart idea, because customers keep saying they want more choices, especially in portion size,” said Bonnie Riggs, a restaurant industry analyst at the NPD Group. “If this works, it’ll have a lot of implications for what McDonald’s may try in the future.”

McDonald’s will need to woo millennials to try the new additions, perhaps bringing back the old Big Mac jingle about “two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, on a sesame seed bun.” The company will start promoting the new Big Macs in ads starting next month.
