Krispy Kreme Goes to India

The company is getting set to open its first doughnut and coffeeshop in Bangalore.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Soon, Indians will be able to enjoy a hot, glazed Krispy Kreme donut. The company will ration it will open its first franchise location in Bangalore, India, on January 19. Bangalore is India's third largest city and home to the country€™s growing IT sector.

Last June, Krispy Kreme announced new partnership with Citymax Hotels Pvt. Ltd. for the development of 80 franchise Krispy Kreme retail locations over five years in the South and West regions of India. "Our new partnership with Citymax Hotels Pvt. Ltd. represents the extraordinary growth opportunity we believe exists for the Krispy Kreme brand in India," said Jeff Welch, Krispy Kreme president, international, in a press release.

"We are excited to introduce the world famous Krispy Kreme experience and hot Original Glazed doughnut to India. Apart from presenting its most popular and freshly prepared recipes from across the world, Citymax Hotels and Krispy Kreme will work together to make some local adaptations to suit the Indian palate as the brand reaches out to a wide consumer base," said Mr.Vishal Sawhney, president of Citymax Hospitality, India.

Currently, Krispy Kreme sells donuts in more than 22 countries. More restaurants and food companies are eyeing India as an opportunity for growth, including McDonald€™s, which recently opened its first vegetarian outlet in India.
