Rutter's 2011 Charitable Giving Tops $320,000

Rutter's CEO stresses the importance of its community involvement, especially during a sustained downturn.

YORK, PA - Rutter??s Farm Stores announced earlier this week that its 2011 charitable donations to local organizations topped $320,000, a community commitment that the retailers said is more important than ever during a sustained downturn.

"In economies as tough as this one, charities need the financial support of the business community more than ever," said Rutter??s CEO Scott Hartman.

Rutter??s 2011 charitable donations included:

  • It??s 9th annual golf outing in April benefitting Rutter??s Children??s Charities raised more than $95,000.
  • In celebration of the opening of its 56th store, in May, it donated to the Mont Alto Volunteer Fire Company, Chambersburg-area Salvation Army, and Fayetteville Athletic Association.
  • A collaboration with York College of Pennsylvania to form the Rutter??s Scholar Program, which awards academic scholarships.
  • $50,000 to the York County Public Library to provide two years of free Internet access at computers throughout the library system.
  • A continuation of its sponsorship of Junior Achievement of Central PA??s "Going Green" initiative.

"We believe these donations have made a lasting impact on the organizations that receive them and those who??ve benefitted from them," Hartman said.
