House Passes Save American Workers Act

NACS-supported bill amends the definition of full-time work week from 30 to 40 hours.

January 09, 2015

WASHINGTON – Yesterday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 30, the Save American Workers Act, by a vote of 252 – 172, despite a veto threat from the White House. Over the past two days our industry sent more than 500 messages to 244 House members, advocating in favor of the bill’s passage.

Last year, the House passed the same legislation but it was ignored by the Senate. However, under the new Republican-controlled Senate, it is much more likely that this legislation will see consideration in that chamber as well. Senators Susan Collins (R-ME), Joe Donnelly (D-IN), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and Joe Manchin (D-WV) introduced the same bill in the Senate this week and S. 30 has already garnered 24 additional supporters. (A sidenote: The identical bill numbers are not a common occurrence but were strategically done in this instance for messaging purposes.)

As this legislation continues on its path through Congress we will continue to keep you informed with updates and grassroots calls to action.
